Altnagelvin Area Hospital is situated on the outskirts of Londonderry on the A6 Glenshane Road which is the main route from Londonderry to Belfast. The hospital site can also be accessed from the A514 Crescent Link Road.

Public Transport Information

Altnagelvin Hospital has a bus stop in the hospital grounds, which is serviced by the Foyle Street to Altnagelvin Service FY04 and FY05. Other buses also stop at the bus stop on the main road outside the hospital.

Car Parking

There are a number of car parks on the site providing over 2000 spaces. This Map clearly identifies both the areas of free and paid parking. There are currently 106 disabled parking spaces on the site to improve accessibility to our facilities.

 
The new multi-storey care park is now operational on the site and is conveniently located adjacent to Outpatients and the Day Case Unit.  This car park is chargeable.  In addition, there are a further number of paid spaces in a car park adjacent to the Emergency Department.   However, patients can park outside of these areas on any free parking space available on the site. The Out Patient Car Park is accessible free of charge out of hours to patients attending the GP Out of Hours Service on the site.

 
There are a number of pay stations located on the site and you must pay BEFORE you return to your car.

Free Parking and Car Park Control Measures

Patients with specific acute conditions, who are required to attend the hospital on a regular basis, shall, during their period of treatment be entitled to free parking on site. Free car parking will be issued to anyone who meets the eligibility criteria.

Questions and answers relating to parking at Altnagelvin Hospital and South West Acute Hospital.

 

  1. Are there disabled car parking spaces? Yes, there are disabled parking spaces on the hospital sites. Signage is in place for disabled bays. These are primarily located close to building entrances/exits.
  2. Are disabled parking spaces chargeable? Some of the disabled parking spaces are located within paid car parks and are chargeable but this is only a small number. The majority of disabled pace are currently in free parking areas.
  3. Do staff have to pay for park? No, staff do not have to pay for parking. The paid spaces however are accessible to any site user.
  4. What is an Unauthorised Parking Notice? This is an A4 sized notice that will be stuck on to one of the rear passenger windows of the vehicle. It states that the car is parking in a unauthorized area. A record of all notices issued will be maintained by the Western Trust.
  5. When do you issue an Unauthorised Parking Notice? An Unauthorised Parking Notice will be issued if you are parked on a pavement, on yellow lines or the grass.
