Western Trust hosts a Day of Celebration

The Western Trust in association with Long Term Conditions Alliance Northern Ireland (LTCANI) recently hosted a “Day of Celebration” to provide support and to show recognition and appreciation for self management trainers in the Western Trust area.

The Trust has been working in partnership with the Long Term Conditions Alliance Northern Ireland (LTCANI) in delivering the “Managing the Challenge”, self management course across the Trust over the past two years.

The half day course runs over a six week period and is available free to anybody with a long term health condition. Referral to the course can be through GPs, health care professionals, voluntary bodies or self referral and is delivered by health care professionals and non health care professionals.

Pauline Casey, Western Trust Long Term Conditions Coordinator, said: “I am delighted that we have this opportunity to pay tribute to all the trainers that deliver this course with passion and dedication. It is through their hard work and the coordination of Martina Blake that has made these courses a success. The day also gave us insight into a participant’s perspective. The afternoon provided a forum for professionals to network and avail of support from the facilitators delivering the refresher session.”

Alan Corry-Finn, Western Trust Executive Director of Nursing and Primary Care and Older People’s Services, added: “We had the opportunity to celebrate the success of this very valuable programme. We heard from those who provided and facilitated the programme, those who were trained and service users who benefitted from the training. This is a real opportunity to make a difference to people’s lives and to help them take some control of their health and quality of life. I would particularly like to thank Action Mental Health for their facilitation and to those who participated in the programme. I would like to extend special thanks to Mark Gamble for sharing his personal journey. I am delighted to say that this is the beginning of a very special journey.”
