Award winning Smoking Cessation Team urges you to quit on No Smoking Day The success of the team helping smokers to quit in the Western Trust area has been recognized with an award.

Receiving the Northern Ireland Healthcare Award has encouraged the team to continue their good work as they urge smokers with the help of 'No Smoking Day' - Wednesday 9 March - to make it their Time to Quit Day.

Smoking Cessation Team members Mary Campbell and Kathleen McManus accepted the award for Innovations in Smoking Cessation on behalf of the Trust’s Health Improvement Department at the ceremony hosted annually by Medical Communications Ltd. The Team members jointly received the award with Bernie Neeson of the Ulster Cancer Foundation. Mary works in the Limavady, Strabane and Derry City Council areas and Kathleen covers Omagh and Fermanagh districts.

Majella Magee, Deputy Head of Health Improvement, said:  “On behalf of the Smoking Cessation Team we are delighted to accept this award for innovations in smoking cessation. The award recognises the team’s accomplishments in providing high quality and accessible service to those most in need across the Western Trust.”

The Smoking Cessation Team has developed an effective evidence-based service for a wide range of people who wish to stop smoking. To ensure access, the team provides interventions in a variety of settings such as hospitals, workplaces, disadvantaged communities, schools and primary care.  They reach a wide range of clients including young adults, unemployed, pregnant women, manual workers, ethnic minorities and those with mental health problems.
