Western Trust Invests In Staff Health

The Western Trust has launched a health and wellbeing strategy focusing on the needs of staff. The Trust aims to create an environment in which the promotion of health and wellbeing is central. It will continue to implement policies and practices which are designed to address staff needs, promote the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of staff and provide a supportive work environment.

The Investing in Your Health Strategy is an important document which has the potential to impact on the lives of up to 12,000 Trust staff. Health is a key determinant of wellbeing and it directly influences quality of life more than any other factor. The Trust recognises the contribution that it can make as an employer by promoting a healthy work environment for all.

The Western Trust has been developing the strategy for the past 12 months and now that the document has been officially launched the Trust will work on delivering key actions.

Speaking at the launch of the Investing in Your Heath Strategy, Mrs Elaine Way encouraged everyone to take ‘personal ownership’ of the strategy.  Mrs Way said: “We look forward to seeing this strategy through into action. This is a significant step forward in our efforts to improve the health and wellbeing of staff and I hope it will encourage all staff to feel supported to lead healthier lives”.

Dr Anne Kilgallen, Medical Director commented “This strategy provides the foundation for a Trust wide integrated approach to staff health and wellbeing.  We are fully committed to implementing the Investing in your Health strategy throughout the organisation and encourage staff to get involved also”.

At present the Trust offers a range of activities for staff including corporate rates at various leisure facilities, the half price swim scheme in a number of council swimming pools, the cycle to work scheme, health fairs and various other Occupational Health, HR and Health and Safety programmes.
