Industrial Action on Wednesday 5 October

The Western Trust and UNISON recognise the need for safe service provision during the industrial action planned for Wednesday 5 October 2011.

Along with other Health and Social Care providers, Western Trust representatives have had a series of meetings over recent days with Regional Officers of UNISON to agree a range of measures to protect both clinical and community services that are critical.

The Trust has agreed with UNISON a protocol which will maintain emergency cover in vital service areas to minimise disruption to patients and clients. It has been agreed that services will continue in residential and children's homes and critical needs of those receiving services in the community will also be met.

Some disruption to services on Wednesday 5 October is anticipated, however the extent of disruption is difficult to quantify at this stage. The Trust is working to manage any potential disruption and asks for the public's patience and co-operation.  We regret any inconvenience that the industrial action may cause.

If you have any queries regarding Western Trust hospitals/services, contact the information line between 3pm and 6pm today (Tuesday 4 October) and between 8am and 3pm tomorrow (Wednesday 5 October) on 028 7161 1252.

Services will be under sustained pressure in hospitals. People with minor ailments are reminded that they should consult their GP in the first instance rather than attend their local hospital.
