£800,000 MRI Scanner arrives at the South West Acute Hospital

Western Trust’s commitment to delivering a high quality service to patients is highlighted this week with the arrival of a new £800,000 MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) Scanner at the new South West Acute Hospital.
The new MRI Scanner is the first of its kind in Northern Ireland and boasts the most advanced capabilities in scanning, imaging and diagnostic technology.
Speaking following the delivery of the MRI Scanner, Joe Lusby Western Trust Deputy Chief Executive said: “I am delighted to see at first hand the delivery and installation of a new MRI Scanner in this new state-of- the-art facility. The Western Trust is fully committed to providing the highest quality of care to the local population and this MRI Scanner along with other major pieces of diagnostic equipment such as the £720,000 CT (Computed Tomography) will greatly enhance how our medical and nursing staff will diagnose and treat patients. The Trust has recently appointed an MRI Consultant Radiologist who will take up post in June 2012 and this investment in high quality staff and the latest technology will benefit patients for the next thirty years.”
He added: “With just over two months to the opening of the new £276m South West Acute Hospital our staff are currently involved in ensuring each Ward and Department are fully equipped with the necessary equipment and supplies. Western Trust staff are also continuing to receive familiarisation training in preparation for the smooth transition of services to the this magnificent facility on and from the 21 June 2012.”
