Volunteers Anne Boyd and Ruby Millar

Tell us a little about yourself
Anne is an active Christian who uses her time in the service of others especially to help older people. Anne enjoys knitting and befriending people who need a listening ear.

Ruby is a retired school teacher who devotes her time to Church work and volunteering. Her hobbies include walking, reading and patchwork.

Where do you volunteer?
We volunteer our time preparing teas, coffees and light refreshments at well-being Information Days. These information days are for Cancer Sufferers to attend at Altnagelvin Hospital.

Why did you decide to become a volunteer?
We thought we would be ideal recruits as we could give something back to people who have just had a very traumatic experience and as Christians we felt it was another way we could show God’s love through this small service.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering?
We enjoy being a welcoming face and an encouraging voice to ladies who are really nervous attending the information days. We feel that we are showing God’s love and what He would have wanted us to do as we have the spare time.

Would you encourage others to volunteer with the Western Trust?
Yes, we would encourage others to volunteer with the Western Trust. It is a way to show God’s love through helping people. It is a very rewarding experience and if you have the time to spare do not hesitate.
