Volunteer Philip N. Annadurai

Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a qualified Medical Laboratory Technician originally from India. In my career I have worked for 10 years in the Multi-Speciality Hospital located in Saudi Arabia. Four years ago I relocated and moved to Derry-Londonderry with my family.

Where do you volunteer?
I volunteer in Ward 42, Altnagelvin Hospital.

Why did you decide to become a volunteer?
As I am a Medical Missionary, I was involved in volunteering at free medical camps in India for poor people. When I moved to Derry-Londonderry I made the decision to continue my volunteering here.  I like helping the patients and also public members coming into the hospital.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering?
I really enjoy volunteering with the Elderly patients in the ward, I love chatting to them, listening to their stories and life experiences. I help them generally in the ward to do things such as assisting with feeding.

Would you encourage others to volunteer with the Western Trust?
I would definitely encourage others to volunteer with the Western Trust. I find it very rewarding giving up my time to help staff and patients in the hospital.
