Schools Create Artwork for new Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex

Schools Create Artwork for new Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex A number of local school children have been using their creative talents to create a range of artwork to be displayed in the new Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex when it opens. An open invitation was issued to all schools in the area to take part in the exciting artwork project and a number of primary and post primary schools responded.

The initiative was implemented by Coordinator of the project, Geraldine O’Reilly.  Geraldine brought in artists skilled in areas such as ceramics and textiles who undertook guidance sessions with the schools. However, ultimately the high standard of work completed is a testament to the skills and imagination of the school children under the supervision of their teachers.

Geraldine O’Reilly said: “The art work pieces created so far are truly amazing. The school children have captivated and dazzled us with their creativity and have produced pieces that will leave a lasting legacy in the new hospital.

“By using a range of materials including ceramic tiles, felt work, canvases, print work and painting the children have created art suitable for inclusion in the new building. A selection of the artwork and images will be applied and displayed throughout the new healthcare facility particularly in public areas.”

The display process will begin when the contractor hands over the finished hospital to the Trust in December 2016 and will be viewable when the facility opens in Spring 2017.

Samples of the works created to date by local primary school pupils from Gillygooley, St. Mary’s Killyclogher, Gortnagarn, Cooley and St. Scires Trillick will be trailed in the coming weeks in the Western Trust’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
A similar process has started with the local post-primary schools who expressed an interest in the project.

The Western Trust is greatly appreciative of the finished primary school pieces and extends a big “Thank You” to all the schools involved. The Western Trust is looking forward to seeing further examples of high standard art from the secondary schools that can also be proudly displayed in the new Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex.
