Trust Chief Executive visits Neighbourhood Health Improvement Project

Trust Chief Executive visits Neighbourhood Health Improvement Project

The Neighbourhood Health Improvement Project (NHIP) was pleased to welcome Dr Anne Kilgallen, Chief Executive of the Western Trust; on a recent visit to the project.

The project has for the past nine years worked together with the six local Neighbourhood Renewal communities to deliver a wide range of health initiatives which has enabled many participants to improve their health and wellbeing. Last year more than 5,000 people participated in 153 programmes funded by the Department for Communities and the Public Health Agency.

During the visit Dr Anne Kilgallen met representatives from the Partnership, the staff team and a number of people who had taken part in the programmes. To illustrate the benefits of the project a short film was shown which gave the guests a brief glimpse of the work as seen through the eyes of some of the participants. After the film a number of people also spoke about the journeys they have made as a result of their participation.

Speaking during the visit Dr Anne Kilgallen said: “I am delighted to see first-hand how the support provided by this community based project has enabled each participant to make positive changes which significantly improved their health and wellbeing. The benefits were clearly demonstrated here by the moving testimony of the participants and staff I met.

"The Western Trust has long recognised the value of the Neighbourhood Health Improvement Project and will continue to support this invaluable work to improve the health and wellbeing of those most in need.”
