Department of Health Stroke Consultation

Department of Health Stroke ConsultationSpeaking ahead of the meeting of the Western Trust Board this week, Dr Anne Kilgallen, Western Trust Chief Executive said: “The Department of Health is leading on the Stroke Consultation and all health and  social care trusts have been actively involved in the discussions in preparation. We in the Western Trust are very pleased that both the South West Acute and Altnagelvin Hospitals are part of the options being considered.

“By consulting on the configuration of stroke services, Health and Social Care in Northern Ireland is following through on established policy that has been set out in the Bengoa Report and in Delivering Together.  This is about achieving the best possible outcomes for patients and securing sustainable services.

“We will continue to play our part in developing regional models for services, based on the evidence around best outcomes, access and sustainability.  I am delighted work is already underway with this with the recent announcements on the location of Cataracts, Varicose Veins and Bariatric Surgery.

“The Trust will continue to engage in the process and would encourage everyone to have their say and to get involved in the consultations for the various services when they are announced.”
