Celebration event for Western Trust Macmillan Volunteers

Celebration event for Western Trust Macmillan VolunteersVolunteers who support the Western Trust Macmillan Information and Support Service have been named regional winners of the Macmillan Service Team of the Year 2019.  The celebration event took place recently at the Mellon Country Inn, Omagh with volunteers from all three hospital sites at the North West Cancer Centre, Altnagelvin Hospital; South West Acute Hospital, Enniskillen and Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex in attendance.

Martha Magee, Western Trust Macmillan Information and Support Manager said: “We cannot underestimate the level of commitment and motivation that our volunteers have given to service delivery for cancer patients. We are truly delighted that their enthusiasm, dedication, and also "going beyond" the call of duty to ensure that individuals and carers receive an optimal standard of care, has been acknowledged by the achievement of this award.

Martha continued: “Our volunteers are very different individuals, but each bring a similar dedication to their role; the values and ethics of person centred care, and it is because of their continued and consistent motivation to their role that they were nominated for the Service Team of the Year Award. Not only are they committed, but each and every one of them develops a relationship with our patients that puts them at ease and supports them with their individual concerns. This team of volunteers are resourceful, reliable, dependable, exceedingly capable, and put people affected by cancer first. They are the accessible link between the individual and the professionals within cancer services. Their interaction with people affected by cancer makes the daunting visits to the hospital easier to navigate which enriches the individual’s pathway experience.”
