Industrial Action - Latest Information

09/01/2020

UNISON and The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Trades Union members will take Strike Action on Friday 10 January. The Western Trust anticipates some disruption to services during the planned strike period.

Potential impact is as follows:

  • 375 outpatient appointments have been postponed for Friday 10 January.
    • Altnagelvin - all morning out-patient clinics are cancelled.  Afternoon clinics will run from 2pm.
  • 57 inpatient procedures/day cases have been cancelled for Friday 10 January.
  • There will be seven treatment rooms closed at GP surgeries on Friday 10 January across the Western Trust area. These are Omagh, Belleek, Strabane, Great James Street, Claudy, Dungiven and Waterside treatment rooms. There will be a reduced level of service at Enniskillen, Lisnaskea and Irivinestown treatment rooms.
  • There will be 7 Day Centres Closed on Friday 10 January: these are Omagh Day Centre; Fresh Focus in Enniskillen; Dromore; Strathroy; Mill Street in Enniskillen; Drumcoo and the Arden Centre. Two Day Centres will also be partially closed: these are Glenside and Evergreen.
  • Four school vaccination clinics have been postponed for Friday 10 January. These clinics have provisionally been rescheduled for later this month.
  • Transport services: A reduced service will be provided to Benbradagh Resource Centre. The lunchtime lab / specimen collection from Northern Sector Health Centres will not take place. The morning HSDU community collections will not take place.
  • The Endoscopy Department in Altnagelvin can only offer an Emergency service on Friday 10 January. A total of 47 patient procedures have been cancelled and the intention is that these 47 patients will be given any slots that become available through cancellation over the next 6 – 8 weeks.

It is also anticipated that there will be greater pressures on urgent and emergency care services, including Emergency Departments.

The Trust continues to regularly review the situation. As ever our top priority is to ensure and maintain patient safety. Given the reduction in staffing levels anticipated, the Western Trust has regrettably taken the decision to cancel some non-emergency services. It is intended that clinically urgent appointments and procedures will proceed.

Affected patients have been contacted directly and all new information will be posted on the Western Trust’s website (www.westerntrust.hscni.net) and on our social media channels. Unless you have been contacted please arrive for your appointment as planned.
