The hospital has very strict rules about protecting the confidentiality of patient information and will take action against staff who breach confidentiality.
The Data Protection Act 1998 gives patients a right to see what is written about them in their hospital notes. Ask for the leaflet ‘Getting access to your hospital records’ if you want to know more about this.
A leaflet called ‘How we use the information you give us about yourself’ is also available. And if at any time patients want to know more about their rights, they can speak to the person in charge of their care, or to the Patients’ Advocate (see ‘Contact us’), or to the Communications Manager.
