School Nursing

“Working in partnership with parents and schools”

The school nursing service promotes the physical, emotional and mental wellbeing of all children and young people during their time at school.  The service aims to identify health and developmental issues and enable appropriate action to be taken.

  • Hearing test – this will involve your child responding to different sounds played through earphones placed over your child’s ears.
  • Height assessment – this will involve your child removing shoes and hair accessories before standing under a height measure.
  • Weight assessment – this will involve your child removing shoes and heavy clothes, e.g. fleece, before standing on weighing scales.

How can you help us?

You can help us by making sure:

  • your child has received all immunisations before starting school and is registered with and being seen by a dentist regularly;
  • all forms are completed as accurately as possible and signed by the person who has parental responsibility (see your child’s PCHR – red booklet, page iv) before they are returned to school the following day;
  • you respond to any appointment invitation immediately; and
  • do your best to attend.
