The Trust provides residential care for Older People in a number of homes throughout the Western Trust area including:

Each resident is allocated a member of staff to act as a Key worker.  The Key worker will work to assist the resident to settle in, act as an advocate for them, and try to help resolve any problems they may have.   

Key workers will write a Care Plan with the resident as soon as possible after their admission.  He / She will want to find out what their interests are, as well as their likes / dislikes.  He / She will agree with the resident what assistance they need to help remain as independent as possible.

Greenfield Residential Home

Greenfield Home provides Care and Accommodation for 34 residents’ and 1 Day Care Client for over 65 years who do not need hospital of nursing care but do need a safe and comfortable environment, which enhances their quality of life. 


A decision is made whether the clients’ needs would be best met in residential care following an assessment carried out by the care team.  A financial assessment is completed by the Care Manager and a member of the finance department to calculate the weekly charge for the client. 


Arrangements are made through the Care Manager for the Officer-In-Charge and Key worker to visit the client at home or in hospital, or if possible have the client visit the home.  Relevant information, the assessment documentation and care plan is shared with staff in preparation for the admission. 


For emergency admissions the home requires a medical assessment and basic information.  Within 2 days the home must receive a full assessment of the client’s needs. 


Rectory Field Residential Home

Rectory Field is a 35-bed home situated on the Limavady Road in the Waterside district of Londonderry.  Our care team consists of management, care staff, domestic and catering staff.


We provide 24-hour care to the older person on a permanent, temporary or respite basis – whatever the client wishes.


To help residents settle into the home, they are welcome to bring in small personal items such as photographs, ornaments or a television for their own bedroom.  Each client has their own bedroom, containing a single bed, built-in wardrobe, chest of drawers, beside locker and wash hand basin.


Rectory Field also offers its residents a wide range of activities such as reminiscence sessions, social evenings, birthday parties, etc.  Newspapers are provided on a daily basis.  Residents can also avail of hairdressing services and laundry services.


Residents are free to attend day care if they wish and will continue to have their own GP, district nurse, chiropodist, dentist and optician whilst in our care.


Visitors and relatives are free to visit the home at any time of the day.


Seymour Gardens Residential Home

Seymour Gardens is a purpose-built home situated in its own grounds.  The home was opened in 1977 and caters for 26 residents with memory impairment.


The home offers single room accommodation and has a large enclosed garden with courtyard area, which can be availed of in good weather.


Seymour Gardens offers permanent accommodation to meet individually assessed needs; temporary accommodation and respite care, to give carers a break throughout the year.


Care is provided in the home, taking the following values into account:

  • Fulfilment

A programme of entertainment is organised throughout the year and includes social evenings, outings and birthday parties.  The home has an activity worker who works within the home 5 days per week. There is also a multi-sensory room, where residents can relax and listen to soft music.


Daily newspapers are provided by the home.  The hairdresser and barber are available by pre-arrangement.  Visitors are welcome at any reasonable time and privacy will be respected during visiting.  Residents can make and receive phone calls.  Each resident has a resident key worker.


In the event that Seymour Gardens will no longer be able to provide the necessary care to meet the needs of the resident, a comprehensive assessment will indicate future care options for the resident.


Thackeray Place Residential Home

Thackeray Place is a purpose built single storey residential home with 32 single bedrooms. It is situated on the main A37 road on the outskirts of Limavady going towards Coleraine. It is convenient to local shops and next to the bus station.


Thackeray Place caters for people over 65 who may require assistance with daily living tasks or the security and support of 24 hour supervision because of physical frailty or mild memory problems.


Respite care is provided for people needing a break, or recovering from illness or a fall, or when carers are away on holiday or needing a rest.


The home has a large front sitting room, a meeting/activity room, a smaller sitting room, a designated smoking room for residents, a dining room and an outside patio garden to the back of the home. There is also a kitchen, laundry, hairdressing room, 2 offices, 2 staff rooms, and a staff flat. There is a disabled toilet, a visitors toilet, and a medicines room. There are two bathrooms. One has a variable height bath, the other has an standard bath and a separate shower. All are fitted with hoists. Every bedroom has a wash hand basin and an ensuite toilet. 

There is a paved seating area outside at the front of the home and an enclosed lawn at the back. There is a car park at the back of the home.


William Street Residential Home

William Street Residential Home for Older People is situated at the upper end of one of Derry’s most bustling streets, leading to the city centre.  It is convenient to churches and shopping areas, as well as being on the main bus route.


William Street is set in its own grounds, with the front garden enclosed by a red brick wall, topped with an elegant wrought iron railing.


There is a spacious patio with raised flower beds, trees and shrubs, where a resident may enjoy some peace and quiet if they wish.  There is also a visitor’s care park and wheelchair accessibility at all entrances.


The home caters for 27 residents and each resident has a single bedroom.  There are 3 living areas, each accommodating 9 residents.  Each living area has 1 sitting room with television and radio and an adjacent well-stocked kitchenette.  Each living area has 1 shower/bathroom and 2 toilets.


William Street has a large dining room, where all main meals are served.  Snacks are delivered by catering staff to the 3 living areas and special diets are catered for.


Adjacent to the dinning room is a large sitting area, which boasts a 36” television screen, music centre and karaoke machine.  This sitting room also doubles as a function room for birthday parties, Christmas parties etc.
