The Western Health and Social Care Trust announced on the 22 January 2009 that it would no longer be in a position to provide acute medical care at the Tyrone County Hospital from the beginning of March 2009.

In the best interest of patients and to ensure that they would not have to experience admission to Tyrone County Hospital and then have to be transferred to another hospital after 2 March 2009, there will be no new admissions of acutely ill patients to Tyrone County Hospital after 23 February 2009.

A considerable amount of work involving frontline healthcare staff is ongoing to ensure the safe transition of services for the beginning of March 2009.

The Trust is engaging with various healthcare partners in relation to the transition of services and as part of its communication process will be issuing a public information leaflet to households in the Tyrone and Fermanagh Areas from 23 March 2009.

The leaflet will provide further detail on the changes and outline the types of treatments which will be available in the Tyrone County Hospital.
