Erne Hospital
Parking
Parking is limited at the hospital and you may have to park a little way from the entrance. There is a 'drop off' point at the main entrance and a number of parking places for those with disability. Parking spaces for people with disability must respected at all times.
There are no car parking charges.
Entrances
The main entrance to the hospital and the Accident & Emergency Department have automatic opening doors and there are no steps. The rear entrance can be used by those parking in the rear Car Park and does not have an automatic door. There are steps from the rear Car Park and there is also a ramp with no steps, that lead to the rear entrance. The various departments are all sign posted from the entrances but please ask any member of staff for directions or assistance.
Telephones
There are public telephones inside the main hospital entrance, the Health Centre entrance, the entrance to the Care of the Elderly Unit and the maternity unit. Bring some change with you. Mobile phones must be switched off while in the hospital.
Shop
A shop inside the main hospital entrance sells a variety of snacks, soft drinks and newspapers. It is open:
• Mon - Fri: 8.30am - 4.30pm, 6.30pm - 8.30pm
• Sat: 2.30pm - 4.30pm, 6.30pm - 8.30pm
• Sun: 2.00pm - 4.30pm
Refreshments
Hot drinks can be purchased from a vending machine near the main entrance hall. A tea bar with limited opening hours is provided by voluntary staff in the Outpatients department.
Toilets
The toilets nearest the Outpatients department can be found inside the entrance marked. These have a baby changing room. Other toilets can be found in the corridor past the shop by the main entrance. These toilets are suitable for those with a disability.
Confidentiality
When you come to hospital you will be asked information about yourself including your name, date of birth and full address, as well as medical information.
This information is held in a paper record and some of it is put onto computer. This helps us to provide a service to you, arrange tests or treatment and send you further appointments. Information is only passed on to other professionals on a 'need to know' basis.

Any Questions?
If you have any questions or concerns. or have any special needs, please telephone the department who sent your appointment. There should be a telephone number on your appointment letter or card. Otherwise ring the hospital and explain which department you will be attending and your call will be put through.
Our staff accept calls through the BT "Type Talk" service for those with hearing difficulties.
Please feel free to ask questions or ask for assistance from any of our staff.
Your Comments
We want to know about your experience of your visit. Tell the staff involved in you care or treatment, if you have any comments or wish to make a complaint.
We also have a leaflet explaining the formal complaints process called 'Listening and Responding'. This is also available on audio tape for those with visual impairment. Ask for a copy of the leaflet from any reception desk or contact:

Tyrone County Hospital
Introduction
Welcome to the "Day Procedure Unit" at Tyrone County Hospital We hope you will be comfortable during your stay. This booklet will provide you with information which may help to alleviate some of the anxieties or concerns you may have Our 14 bed unit is situated on the 2nd floor and can be reached by lift or by stairs. Patients are admitted, receive their treatment and discharge on the same day. The ward opens at 08.00 a.m. and closes at 18.00 p.m Monday to Friday. On occasions it may be necessary for patients to stay overnight in a general ward if not fully recovered patients are both sex and all age groups.

Transport
It will be necessary for you to arrange your own transport to and from the hospital. You must have a responsible adult to collect you, drive you home and stay with you for 24 hours.
No Smoking Policy
In the interest of health and comfort, the Tyrone County Hospital is a "NON SMOKING" environment. There is one designated smoking area area and this is situated on the first floor and is for "patients only".
Television and Radio
There are ear phones and radio sets at each bedside and a television is available in the day room. You will have access to a public telephone at the unit.
Information for Relatives
There is a comfortable room provided for relatives to wait in but if they prefer to go shopping or home they will be given an approximate time of discharge.
Personal Belongings (including valuables)
Do not bring any money, jewellery or any other valuables with you as the "Sperrin Lakeland Trust" will not accept the responsibility for any loss.
Medical Certificate
Patients who require a medical certificate may obtain one from the ward staff before discharge.
On Arrival
On arrival you will be given a named nurse who will be involved in your care and treatment. They will be available to answer any queries that you or your relatives may have.
Discharge
A planned discharge policy will be adhered to. Discharge times following procedures will depend on the type of anaesthetic or sedative administered.
On discharge you will be given:
• A discharge letter for your GP
• 3 days supply of medication,
• A date for removal of sutures or clips if applicable,
• Should a District Nurse be required to call we will make the request before your discharge,
• Should you require input from Social Services this may be arranged prior to discharge at your request.
Information and appropriate advice leaflets will be given.
Feel free to contact your named nurse or Day Unit if you have any queries or problems.
Special Information for Parents of Children for Day Surgery
Preparing for operation
• Explain to your child that they will go to sleep for a short time and that their operation will be over when they wake up again.
• Ensure your child has fasted from 12 midnight the previous night. Food or drink taken before an operation can be dangerous.
• You and your child are welcome to visit us in the unit prior to admission.
• Your child may bring their favourite toy with them.
• It is important that two adults are available to accompany child home.
What will happen on the day?
• Your child will be allocated a named nurse who will have experience in children's nursing.
• The named nurse will ensure that the child's stay will be as enjoyable as possible.
• Your child will be visited by medical staff.
• We encourage you to stay with your child throughout the day. A comfortable area will be provided for you during your stay with us, where you can relax and have a beverage.
If for any reason you are unhappy with any aspect of your care please do not hesitate to discuss it with your named nurse or ward manager. In the event that your complaint is not dealt with to your satisfaction at ward level you may contact the Sperrin Lakeland Trust's Complaints Officer.
As we will continue to evaluate and improve the care we provide, you may receive a questionnaire which we would appreciate your co-operation in completing. We would be grateful for all your comments which you think may improve our service to you the consumer.
