About the Western Health and Social Care Trust

The Western Health and Social Care Trust brings together the former Altnagelvin, Foyle and Sperrin Lakeland Trusts and Westcare Business Services on 1st April 2007

Almost 12,500 staff will transfer to the new Trust. Its budget will be approximately £400 million per year.

The Western Trust Area comprises the five Council areas of Derry, Limavady, Strabane, Omagh and Fermanagh. The area covers almost 5000 square kilometres and has a population of just over 290,000 making up almost 17% of the total Northern Ireland population.

From Magilligan in the north to Newtonbutler in the south the distance covers approximately 110 miles. It includes major urban centres and some of the most remote rural areas in Northern Ireland with Fermanagh, Omagh and Strabane being among the least densely populated areas in Northern Ireland.
